Gear ratio effect on dyno
WebOct 26, 2005 · The reading is taken with the gearbox at 1:1. It should be gear ratio neutral, just as trap speed in the quarter should be gear ratio neutral (assuming the car is still accelerating through the lights). The Mustang brand chassis dynamometer uses small rollers, fore and aft of the tires, and measures torque. WebOct 22, 2005 · Just had a thought, and thought I would share. Different gears dont make different power. 1st gear feels fast because on your T5 its a 3.35 ratio which is very steep to get the car rolling. The reason that they dyno cars in 4th gear is because 4th gear is a 1:1 gear ratio, its for hp calculation reasons. B.

WebAug 4, 2015 · New Zealand. 4th gear, or whatever gear is closest to 1:1 is normally a pretty good place to run the car. If you use a lower gear, this will result in a higher torque multiplication through the gearbox and on a roller this may cause traction problems. On a dynapack hub dyno wheel spin isn't obviously an issue, but with the larger torque ...

WebAug 29, 2024 · The gear ratio does not materially affect chassis dyno numbers. If you were going from say a 3.08-1 to a 4.88-1 you might see a slight drop due to the higher friction of a higher ratio and the inertia effect of the faster RPM climb rate. For the learning if you have a manual, you could do pulls in say 2nd, 3rd and then (direct-drive) 4th, where ...
